Checking if the pfSense box is up outside of the network
-
Is there any way to monitor if pfSense box is alive whilst not being connected to the network? Is it safe to open a port for that purpose?
-
Huh?! When it's not connected to the network, opening ports is absolutely useless, since the traffic cannot travel to destination…
-
Perhaps I haven't phrased it in the best way. If I'm not in the office, how can I monitor if the pfSense box is up and running?
-
Have you considered using ping?
-
cron job on the pfsense box to send an email that you can monitor from wherever you are, a cron job on a LAN side client that does the same thing
-

I don't think that's a safe thing to do. I don't want some random hackers from China discovering that this IP is pingable and attacking my network.

Are there any instructions for how to do that?

You can not be freaking serious… <rolleyes>??
If your so worried, then only allow ping from the location your going to be checking from, use pfblocker to block the bad countries you don't want to allow that all too dangerous ping..
Just what the China hackers are after some random IP that answers ping!!

Better safe than sorry. Thanks for your response, I have already figured it out.
