Apcupsd & ESXi Shutdown?
-
Hi,
I have a APC Back-UPS ES 550G connected to my pfSense box, Apcupsd is configured correctly and it communicating with the UPS.
Is there a way to have pfSense send a shutdown signal to my ESXi hosts?
Thanks

I have a similiar setup. pfSense 2.4.1, ESXi 6.5, FreeNAS, and a couple of Window clients.
I moved to NUT and I'm very glad I did.
I got the NUT client for ESXi http://rene.margar.fr/2012/05/client-nut-pour-esxi-5-0/.
This thread for NUT gave me all I needed for pfSnese https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=115349.0
The only odd thing I ran into was that I had to reboot my pfSense box after connecting my 2200 RM APC via USB.
Not only does my ESXi server shutdown, but so does my FreeNAS, AND I even created a graphical meter using Rainmeter for my windows client - which also uses NUT - that shows load, temp, charge, status and Amps/Watts.

FWIW, this is a known issue. It's a permissions problem that happens only on first connect. You can solve it by disconnecting/reconnecting the USB connection or rebooting.
There is a discussion of this issue here.
