RDP Consistently Drops Through pfSence
-
Hi All,
This is my first time posting an issue regarding pfSence on this forum.
I have a pfSence firewall deployed on a VM (VmWare 14). The LAN side connect to the another VM environment where the test VM are located. pfSence works completely fine with all other traffic where it blocks traffic that are not allowed on the WAN port and on the LAN port.
But the only issue is RDP traffic on port 3389 which when allowed over the WAN port the RDP connection is established but keeps dropping every 20 seconds or so.
We also have a network route to the VM test environment which does not go through the pfSence firewall, which we keep for emergencies and management. When RDP traffic routed thought this management connection I do not experience any drop at all.
I have not being able to successfully troubleshoot this issue and was wondering if the pfSence community can help me.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Maybe you have an asymmetric routing issue, so that the RDP packets come in through pfSense but go out the other route.

Hi viragomann,
What you said was right. There were two interfaces which were pointing to the WAN. The routing was asymmetric and i fixed it by disabling one of the interfaces. Now the issue is fixed and RDP does not drop at all.
Thank you so much for your help. :)
