I have configured an IPSEC VPN in pfsense. Outside clients connect to it fine.

What I don't understand is why don't have I WAN firewall rules that permit this incoming connection? I assume the VPN is making a connection to my IP on some port? Shouldn't there be a firewall rule?

It's automatically added, unless you disable auto-added VPN rules under System>Advanced.

Ah, the infamous super secret hidden rules rear their ugly head again…. Those really need to be visible in the firewall rule lists with the user created rules, it would avoid all of this confusion.

^ I agree, maybe we make the flag hidden, that shows them.  But it would be very nice to be able to see ALL rules in the gui.. Not saying has to be on by default, not saying should be able to edit them in any way.  But showing them would be very very nice..
