AMD APU pfSense-box
-
Hi there,
I am planning on setting up a pf-sense box with my old HTPC.
It's an AMD A-7850k with 8 GB DDR3 RAM and for networking I'd add 1 or 2 Intel network cards (Mainboard one is Realtek I think…not sure, though).
Thing is: Will the AMD be a problem? It's a powerful machine, but I don't know if it supports everything or are there known issues with those APUs?
Internet will be 100/50 fiber. I want to set up a few firewall rules, a VPN-Server and maybe a client too.
I'd really appreciate your help.
Thanks :)
edit: As network cards I'd buy Intel EXPI9301CT. Looks like they are the cheapest Intel PCIe cards available here in the EU (~ € 23,-). Would you recommend those?

AMD should not be a problem this CPU also supports AES-NI so it boosts the VPN encryption performance.
But it has a bit high TDP, you should consider to run pfSense virtualized on it to use the rest computing power for semething else.
