Dhcpd: unexpected ICMP Echo Reply from
-
hi folks,
i've got a pfsense running on a dsl, 3 interfaces, 1 lan, 1 wan, 1 dmz, dhcp listening on lan and dmz. today the says this:dhcpd: unexpected ICMP Echo Reply from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (ip from inet)
I thought, dhcp is only listening on lan and dmz-interface?!
regards, dennis

It does.
Is that IP your WAN's gateway by chance?

yes, it is :) what does that mean?

i want to know that firewall can detect the dhcp if using by wifi or hotspot not by LAN?????

It was a good hunch then. :)
The quality RRD graph pings your default gateway. I found some instances of people reporting dhcpd picking up echo replies other than its own (I believe it pings IPs to see if they're assigned prior to assigning a lease, but I'm not sure offhand how pfSense dhcpd is configured). dhcpd apparently detects those replies while listening for other replies, when it shouldn't. Just cosmetic though, I wouldn't worry about it.

thx for the explanation :)
