Problems with internet dropping with pfsense
-
I have pfsense version 2.3.2-RELEASE (amd64). Now if this has been asked before and a solution was given if you can point me to the post that will help that would be great. Here is the problem that I am having I have a cable modem coming in going to the pfsense then going to the my switch then out. the problem I have is that my internet will randomly go out then come back. I have a piece of software called Colasoft ping tool running on my computer and it shows I have about a 10% packet lost ping 8.8.8.8 but I have a 0% packet loss pinging the modem ip. I have talked to my internet provider numerous times on about this and they say when they ping the modem they get no packet loss to it so they say it is my router. I had pfsense this version running on a virtual machine first and was having this problem I have now put it on a separate server and restored the config from the virtual machine and have reset it back to factory and manually put everything in and I still have this problem. It affects me when I am trying to do work from home because if I am remoting to a lot of customers computers then this drop ends up being longer during the day. Is there any log or something I can look at to see if it is the pfsense having this problem or something I can do to prove to my internet provider that it is something on their end so this can get fixed. Or if it is something that needs to be set in pfsense. If you need any logs for this let me know. Now just to say we have this same version of pfsense running at my office with the same provider only difference is at my house it is a slower connection so any help would be appreciated. Thank you

They are not pinging your modem from 8.8.8.8.
Traceroute out and, when you see packet loss to 8.8.8.8 ping something closer. If you can reliably see loss to something closer - preferably within your ISP's own network - try complaining about that. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, as they say.

Are you moving traffic anywhere close to what the ISP says you should be able to do during these periods of ICMP packet loss?
