Ungraceful Shutdown
-
We had 3 transformers blow - and apparently I did not have the usb to the APC plugged in so we experienced an ungraceful shutdown after the batteries ran out.
I did a config reload - all of our switches also had issues so it's not like it was only pfsense that didn't like that.
Is there a protocol I should go through? Some users are saying the times on some of their downloaded files aren't right.
As far as the config goes, it's right. I have it printed out (dont tell the environmentalists) and everything on the surface appears right. Is there anything in BSD that could be wrong?one minor thing is we have a few VM clients and they threw a shit fit - for some reason after trying everything of all things static arp on their static IP was not allowing traffic - couldn't even ping the gateway.
I'm assuming there may be something broken.
I'm playing with fire anyway - the raid card's battery is dead - this is not a critique but more of a question.
Pfsense rocks!

You can run a quick check of the installed files:
pkg check -s | & egrep -v '(Checking all packages|missing file)'
If that comes back clean, it may be all (or mostly OK). Otherwise, be on the lookout for errors in any of the logs or on the console (especially during the boot sequence).
If it's up and running, it's probably OK though.

Thanks for getting back to me.
I decided to retire the server in favor of something modern with hardware crypto and power savings.
Every single issue we had is now gone so I don't know if there was some sort of hardware fault or what.
I'd be more than glad to ship this device for a post mortem if ya'll so desire. I have not formatted it or anything though I did take out the quad nic for the new machine.
The old unit wouldn't even run that command. It appeared to be doing everything correctly, it was just minor stuff like smart switch GUIS being unresponsive over vpn.

What version of pfSense was it?
Sounds like a correct decision was made re: the old hardware.
