R11e-5HacT compatible or not compatible?

I saw on a forum post on here somewhere that a guy recommended a Mikrotik R11e-5HacT for WIFI. So of course I go buy one. Well I own a Armortech Firewall PC (http://armortec.net/Firewall_PC/Intel_Bay_Trail_J1800_J1900/2015/1014/78.html) and it has worked with a regular atheros card, a Ubiquiti card which was garbage but when I instert this one, the board lights up with this red/orange lights but the os doesn't seem to detect it and pfsense doesn't see it. Was a pretty expensive card, was hoping someone get help shed some light on my issues or if i just need to return it.

That looks like an 802.11ac card. There is no support for 802.11ac in FreeBSD (and hence pfSense) currently.
At best you might make it work in some lesser mode but if it's not detected at all then there probably isn't a driver for it.
You have a link to the post recommending it?If you need 802.11ac you are much better off using an external access point in almost every case.

So your saying just use an external wifi ap? That defeats my being able to track traffic and manage individual connetions over wifi. I'd have to get an ap that supports everything i want and if im going to spend 300 on a wifi ap that does all that then there was no point in a pfsense router to being with. Unless I'm missing something.

If you need 802.11ac then yes because there is no support for it in FreeBSD (yet).
If you can use 802.11n (or g) then you can use an older Atheros card in most cases.
