I looked high and low for someone who had done a build for a 1Gbit Internet connection without any luck. Thought that since I went and did some "research" on what others "claimed" would work and succeeded in assembling a build that works well it might be helpful to others.

That's an awesome connection but your not going to see line speed without a >1GbE NIC.

That's completely true. You need a hard lined connection to take full advantage of a speed like this.
AT&T Uverse in the building I'm in provides the 1Gbe and I've put in Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching in place to provide two VLAN's so we can leverage their TV service while still taking advantage of the bandwidth.

Just take care that you cannot use IGMP proxy with VLANs, it's broken in current release.

I speed tested it tonight with AT&T Uverse 1Gbit Internet and was able to achieve full speed routing.

Because you are not going to see faster than 1GbE speeds on a 1GbE NIC.
According to that speed test, his connection can download 1.6Gbps using a 1Gbps NIC. You're clearly not using enough imagination!

…so what use would he have for something faster than a 1 GbE WAN nic when the service is limited to that same rate?
The speedtest is inaccurate so obviously tweaked by the marketing department...

Well at least he's limited to 1 gigabit per firewall interface with that $200 mainboard. Maybe given his budget, intended usage and future plans it was the optimal configuration? As I'm not aware of any of the prerequisites (other than the topic of the thread) I wouldn't know but it's at least a possibility…

or nearly full wire speed at the WAN port! The other one was from HongKong and is using FTTH without PPPoE and gots
something around or nearly 1 GBit/s, it was as I am remembering right ~936 MBit/s with that board!I speed tested it tonight with AT&T Uverse 1Gbit Internet and was able to achieve full speed routing.
Only for the interest of me, do you using PPPoE at the WAN port? Or do you not need it?
The igb(4) driver that is used for that NICs is multi thread based and/or using but often the PPPoE that is single threaded
based will be the bottleneck in that game. And so once again, are you using PPPoE at the WAN port? -
Thanks for pointing out the image I shared is exceeding the 1Gbit download speed that the link is capable of achieving. I was watching the traffic monitor on PFSense while this test ran and it never exceeded the 1Gbit speed in throughput. I'll try and run another test this weekend and capture video of the graph in action.
I am in a rental unit pre-wired for 1Gbit Ethernet to each room from a hall panel that also supplies a 1Gbit AT&T Uverse connection. At the hall panel I put in the PFSense firewall and a layer 2 switch that created a VLAN for the AT&T Uverse TV service to stream and to act as a management network for the Layer 2 network gear.
It's a straight Ethernet handoff from AT&T where they provide a modem/router combo. No PPoE required for me at all.
I am using OpenVPN on the unit to route back to another office that has a PBX. I use this VPN for my phone handset. Not exactly a high bandwidth requirement so it has zero impact on speed. The other office only has a 10mbit line so I couldn't even test a high bandwidth use case between my location and theirs if I wanted.
In each room I put in a small Layer 2 switch. TP-Link has a $30 unit on Amazon that I used, and I opted for Ubiquiti in the home office.
Why state all of that? Thanks to the 1GbE in the walls there is literally no way for me to achieve greater speeds so I don't care if my router can address more than 1Gbit speeds. Not that I would have cared as I would likely have just used a layer 3 switch as my gateway between local VLAN's and saved a bundle on the firewall hardware by having it route local traffic.
Biggest downside thus far is my girl hates the look of the pfsense and switch mounted to the wall outside of the panel.

You could have spent only $60 for your mobo/cpu and had way better features including pci-e slots and ECC RAM had you went with an AM1 platform.

PCIe is a useless feature for cenal (and many others) as there is no room to use it in the case he choose, and already that small sized case was hard for his girlfriend to accept he said.
Cenal didn't ask for buying advice or criticism in this thread. He was kind enough to share his build and experience with the forum and for that all he gets are negative smarta*ses criticising the choices he already made. >:(
Create your own thread with a detailed recipe for your superior platform and share how that perform instead. That would at least be constructive and add value to the community instead of this s*it.
