Best way to connect two devices with static IP's to my network via pfSense
-
Hi
Apologies if this is the wrong forum but as I've tried a couple of methods, I thought general would be a good starting point.
I've set up pfSense in a Hyper-V VM (in an admittedly complex home environment) and put it in front of all my other devices, making it the gateway, firewall etc.
The internet connection is provided by a fiber modem which has two ports; the first port connects to pfSense and provides the WAN connection via PPPoE, the second port provides access to the admin page (and also to statistics for apps that can leverage them). The WAN-side is working fine, but I'm struggling to add the LAN side of the modem to my network so that I can access the admin page from any device on my network.
Here's a simple overview of my network:
Fiber modem 1 <–-----> LAN Port 1 <-------> pfSense WAN1 Port <-------> WAN-assigned IP address <-------> LAN (192.168.1.0/24)
Fiber modem 1 <-------> LAN Port 2 <-------> pfSense OPT5 Port <-------> pfSense static IP (10.10.1.3)Fiber modem 2 <-------> LAN Port 1 <-------> pfSense WAN2 Port <-------> WAN-assigned IP address <-------> LAN (192.168.1.0/24)
Fiber modem 2 <-------> LAN Port 2 <-------> pfSense OPT6 Port <-------> pfSense static IP (10.10.1.4)The second modem isn't up and running yet (i.e. there's no service) but the hardware is in place.
So, essentially what I'm trying to achieve is access the 10.10.1.0/24 network from the 192.168.1.0/24 network.
Does anybody have any idea's for the best way to achieve this? Bridging? Static routes? (I've tried both, creating a snapshot in Hyper-V each time, and failed, so restored my snapshots each time).
EDIT: Probably worth mentioning that there is no ethernet switch easily accessible to the physical VM host or I'd just use that.
