Noob Hardware recommendation SG1000 Vs. Qotom J1900 Vs. something else
-
Hey,
I'm fairly new to networking but I want to start off with a router and then work my way up over the next few years. I'll just list my requirements for my network.
- $300 (Canadian) budget
- Low power electricity is expensive here 18c/kwh
- Small (I move every 6 months)
- Connect 2 Desktop Computers and a wireless access point.
- My current download speed from my ISP is 50Mbps.
- Future Plans
> DNS caching
> web caching
> NAS server
> Separate guest wireless network
> Raspberry Pi Seed box
So should I get a Qotom J1900 or should I buy an SG1000 and a small switch or would something else work for my home network?
Thanks!

SG-1000 seems perfect for you.
the Gold Membership will be extremely valuable to you for learning pfSense!
Even if you decide on something DIY I recommend you budget for a Gold Membership.
SG-1000 combined with a VLAN capable switch will be great for you to learn!
