Dolphin Netplay with pfsense behind bridged Comcast Modem
A few months back I switched my main firewall from my Comcast modem to a pfsense box. While using my Comcast box, I was able to use Dolphin netplay via the traversal server just fine. Since switching to pfsense I get a "failed to connect" error from Dolphin Netplay.
Dolphin is a Gamecube emulator that uses traversal servers to allow online play. This is done by hosting a game, getting a host code, giving that host code to the other player, and having them enter that host code into their netplay session to connect.
(new here, not sure about the rules on links) Here's a link that explains how this works.
I am able to use the direct connection option which requires giving the other person my IP along with a port I've opened up, but the much easier to use traversal mode just does not work.
Wireshark shows my ip address successfully contacting the server but whether I'm hosting a session or trying to connect to one it just fails out. I also do not see the traversal server being blocked in the firewall logs on the pfsense. Is there somewhere else I could look in the pf that would show me where this activity could be taking place?
If anyone here has any experience setting up Dolphin netplay with pfsense I could really use the help.
Alright homeslice. First things first we need a mod to move this to gaming.
Secondly, I cannot let this go unhelped because you're clearly playing games originally released on the best system ever, and what kind of gamer would I be if I let this continue?!
OK, now that THATS out of the way, do you have UPnP enabled? You mentioned wireshark, do you have packet caps for the host attempting the traversal mode? What is your current nat/firewall rule setup regarding this?
Hope to get you online asap so you can smash.
