      Hello,

When I boot up my SG-8860 pfSense gateway, I can choose between 2 drives to boot on : Drive 0 or Drive 1

Actually, those drives own the following systems:

      • Drive 0: pfSense 2.2.4 (seems to be the factory default firmware of the appliance)
      • Drive 1: pfSense 2.3.3

I've read the documentation but didn't found any information about this : https://www.netgate.com/docs/sg-8860/index.html

      • Do you know what is the purpose of those drives ?

      • When you upgrade do you need to upgrade both ? If so how ?

      Thanks.

If you see two drives, the system must contain an mSATA SSD along with the default eMMC drive. Did you add an mSATA disk yourself?

Normally when we ship a system with mSATA, the eMMC remains blank.

You only need to worry about upgrading the version on the disk that firewall boots and runs from. The other disk wouldn't be used.
