I'm not convinced yet but my modem seems to have been acting flaky the last couple of days (speeds drop dramatically, reset modem and speeds are back to normal).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality DOCSIS modem?

I'm open to buying something nicer (business class hardware) used if it's worth it.

Little late to the party but I had really good luck with my Zoom 5370 on Cox when I was still on cable.  Super cheap for a 16x4 modem and as stable as anything I've ever owned.

Won't ever support gigabit, but for a $65 (new) buy, should hold you over until the Puma6 nonsense is truly resolved.

MOST cable modem ISP's these days DONT allow NON ISP owned cable modems on there network.

Actually that's quite rare.  In fact those who practice this usually get spanked.

In fact if you have telephone service from your cable company they must supply the phone modem for free if you want to use your own data modem.  By law.

I'm using it on Cox and it's OK.  I've been having some issues recently, but I now think they're line problems and not anything systemic.  I think there are posts in that thread about Comcast finally getting up to speed on it.  And, I'm pretty sure there are messages there about it not working on Spectrum.

Arris sb8200 docsis 3.1 working well here. Avoid the puma6 seems to be general advice.

Yeah I was looking at that, I figure if I'm going to have to spend $ on a modem now I might as well upgrade it. Although I don't have access to gigabit, or need it. I'm hoping to still have whatever modem I buy now ten years from now.
It's too bad about the puma6, the SB6190 looked like a cheap option for gigabit.

How do the two NICs on the sb8200 work for a residential (single IP) connection? Can they be bonded? Does the modem even support 2 gigabits? I would think not. Can it be used for management port or is it purely for if you pay for two IP's?

If you're looking towards DOCSIS 3.1, the Arris SB8200 is a good bet (depending on your ISP – it doesn't work with all of them).  If you think you'll be on DOCSIS 3.0 for a while, the old SB6183 still seems good and is a whole lot cheaper.

Thanks I'll check that out! Who does the sb8200 not work with? I'm moving soon so might have to wait and see who my provider is before I buy something new.
