Pfsense 2.3.4 Kernel Panic with Vigor 130

Hi all,

First time poster, long time reader  :) :)

I am having issue with Vigor setup. The kernel keeps crashing and the whole system gets rebooted almost every 5 minutes.

ADSL Line – Vigor 130 (set up as LAN PPPoE Bridge mode and disabled DHCP and Management, etc.) -- Pfsense 2.3.4 with WAN port (on board Intel Ethernet I210-T1 Gigabit Network adapter)

====Hardware====
I am using a HP re-branded quad port gigabit adapter(Intel EXPI9404PTL) along with a TP-LINK wireless card (I haven't set up the wireless) for this system.

The machine is a second hand HP Elitedesk 800 G1:
Intel i3 4330 (I did a swap from i7-4770)
16Gb Ram (4Gb*4 and tested to be working)
250GB WD 2.5 inch drive

====Modem Setup (Vigor 130 with latest version Vigor130_v3.8.1_modem_4.zip)====
The modem was originally set up with 2 PVCs as I am using TPG ADSL2+ in Australia.
8/35 (Internet Traffic) via VLAN 255
0/35 (IPTV Traffic) via VLAN 256
The untagged traffic is designed for management (with 192.168.XXX.YYY setup but I haven't implemented it yet).
Soon after I get this set up, I found it didn't work (PPPoE won't get connected).

Currently,
I changed the settings on the Modem and use untagged for 8/35.
The PfSense did get the IP from the ISP but it frequently dropped out. It's even worse with Kernel Panic almost every couple of minutes!!!
I tried to swap the RAM (from 44Gb to 28Gb, and I even gave it a shot for 2Gb ECC RAM), but it didn't work.
I tried to disable 0/35 IPTV and VLAN 256 tagging - still the same.

Restore to the factory defaults and set it up again…same...

HOWEVER, if I swap the modem with one bridged Netgear, the system will run at least overnight without any problem.

I would think there is something wrong between my Pfsense settings and Vigor 130.

Am I missing anything? Any hints or clues?

Hmm, the crash appears to be in pppoe but it's not something I'm familiar with.

Does the Netgear modem also bridge the connection to pfSense so it runs PPPoE?

Yes, the Netgear modem is also running on Bridged Mode so PfSense need to do the PPPoE.

Hmm, hard to say how that would be any different then from pfSenses view.

Maybe compare the connection logs from each case for differences.
