Startup Stuck on SATA Detections
-
Incredibly new to PFsense and had hardware to install it on and have run into a block;
Intel DK77QB with CPU and RAM and an mSata drive, the install goes well and and on reboot it locks with detecting SATA (ATA) Channels.
LINE ERROR:
Sata3: <ata channel="">at channel 1 on atapci0It just shows a grey box
I have loaded bios defaults, turned off and on AHCI and other items in the BIOS.
Anyone have any ideas?</ata>

Which install type did you run? What are you booting from?
Can we see the actual errors you see and the boot up to that point?
Do you mean DQ77KB? That was a popular a board a few years ago and many people used it so it should certainly be possible. Though there are some clones around that may behave slightly differently.

Yes, meant the DQ77KB board, The install went fine from a usb stick, via vga and keyboard, onto the msata ssd on the board. no other SSDs are installed or drives and there is no way to disable the sata ports.
There are no actual errors listed when the boot hangs, its last line is the "Sata3: <ata channel="">at channel 1 on atapci0" with a grey box on the lower left of the screen right under it.</ata>

It's hanging on a device driver that gets initialized after the SATA driver, the last printed message is an indication of a success, lack of a message is an indication of failure. My guess would be firewire or audio or some other integrated device on the motherboard, disable them one by one and see which one causes the hang.

thank you - it appears that if I bounce it a few times I can get it to boot all the way.
I will start disabling the items.

Wondering if it has to do a with BIOS update to the DQ77KB board - I pulled another board we had from another test bench, swapped msata and ram and I cannot reproduce the hang except the difference is the BIOS on the one with the hang was the most recent bios from the website and the one in this test bench board is much older…
I will update the bios and see if the issue/hanging start up resumes.

I did the bounce like 5-6 times then had it through.

Anyone have any additional thoughts on this?
I have 3 DQ77KB routers built, 1 i3, 1 Pentium, and this other i3 - this i3 is the only one stuck on the ATA3 ATAPCI0 line on the installation boot.
Anyone have any thoughts? Seems crazy that this board isnt working.
