Installation of 2.3.4 fails (almost) immediately

I'm trying to install PF Sense on a pretty basic Intel box that I have - E5200, 4GB RAM, Kingston 128GB SSD, Intel dual GB NIC.

Almost immediately after starting the quick install, I get the error:

Execution of the command

/sbin/bsdlabel -B -r -w ada0s1 auto

FAILED with a return code of 1.

Viewing the log, the error message is:

 bsdlabel : unable to get correct path for ada0s1: No such file or directory

When I went through the custom install, it saw the HDD, allowed me to format it and partition it, but then gave the same error right upon starting the install. Pretty much everything in the BIOS is disabled except the required hardware. Also, when it's first booting up, it says:

Root mount waiting for: GRAID-Intel

I admit to not being super linux savvy, but I can generally get a basic installation up and running.

have you tried turning off raid in the bios? moving to ahci / legacy ?

That's what's so bizarre - there is no option for RAID in this BIOS. SATA options are only Disabled, Compatible, or Enhanced. I tried it on both compatible and enhanced, and disabled does what you'd expect.

I have the same problem since 2 days

And another guy have the same problem … in 2015 !

We have very different hardware and the same issue ...

Apparently pfSense just doesn't like some drives. Took out the Kingston and put in a LiteOn, and it loaded just fine. That Kingston worked fine when this was my media PC. shrug
