Vlan segregation and squid

So I wanted to have a VLAN that was separate from my LAN network. so I had appropriate firewall rules to block VLAN traffic to LAN network.
It didn't seem to work until days of trial and error I found out that you can't have your LAN interface and your VALN interface in transparent with squid. So is this a bug or is that just the way it is?
