Possible to configure using 1 LAN address and then changing the LAN address?
-
So, here's what I want to do.
I currently have a DD-WRT router which serves DHCP for my network and it runs on a certain network 192.168.x.x. What I would like to do is:
-
Set up the LAN address on pfSense temporarily to 192.168.1.30, so that I can connect via IPMI to it
-
Configure everything that I need to – openvpn, passwords, other settings and static IP for my servers (but in a different IP range - 172.16.x.x
-
Once everything is set up, I connect the WAN to the new pfSense router
-
All my IP addresses on every computer changes to 172.16.x.x range after rebooting every machine
The above process would allow me to continue having internet access until I am ready to switch. Can I do this? Or does pfSense first require to be on the correct LAN before it will allow me to do any setup?

Setting up a VPN before even have a WAN access ? I'm impressed.
Knowing that pfSense is as easy to setup as DD-WRT (as a firewall / router) - if not easier, I advise you to:
Setup the correct LAN, then:

That's not quite what I meant. What I meant was setting up the new interface for the VPN service, CA.cert, tls key, options, the NAT/outbound/firewall on that interface etc. I didn't actually mean to connect to the VPN. D'oh !
