Dashboard Version Info Inconsistency after Upgrade
-
I was previously running pfSense-CE-2.3.3-RELEASE-4g-i386-nanobsd and used System Update from the GUI to upgrade to 2.3.4_1.
Now that I'm running 2.3.4_1, the GUI dashboard shows that I am running 2.3.4-RELEASE, and that an update to Version 2.3.4_1 is available.
However, if I click the update icon to go to the System Update page, it shows that I am already running 2.3.4_1, and that no upgrade is available.
I posted a bug report for this, as it feels very much like a bug to me, however it was closed as Not a Bug by Jim Pingle, who said that "Some component failed in your upgrade. Please post on the forum, mailing list, or reddit and someone can help you get it straightened out."
I'm not sure that I agree with that assessment that this is not a bug. For one thing, I never upgraded to 2.3.4-RELEASE, I upgraded from 2.3.3-RELEASE directly to 2.3.4-RELEASE-P1, so why does the Dashboard now show that I'm at 2.3.4-RELEASE if it was due to a failure of the upgrade? For another, the System Update page of the GUI claimed that the upgrade was successful, with no errors reported.
This still feels like a bug to me, due to the version inconsistency shown between the two pages, and the fact that the GUI no longer gives me the option to try the update again.
I'll probably end up manually flashing my CF card with 2.3.4_1 and restoring my config; that's what I've had to do with virtually every past pfSense upgrade, since the GUI base updater never seems to work right, le sigh, but I'm still curious what went wrong here.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yeah, your upgrade did not complete… And it will not ever complete most likely until re-attempted from console (option 13) and after killing most of the services except for dnsmasq (and sshd perhaps if required for upgrade).
The nanoBSD installs on Alix boxes are no longer reasonably capable of upgrading due to limited RAM, sorry.
