Netgate SG-2440 won't upgrade to from 2.3.4 to 2.4
-
I have a Netgate SG-2440 that shows the current version information:
2.3.4-RELEASE-p1 (i386) built on Fri Jul 14 14:53:03 CDT 2017 FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p19
And the update status shows
The system is on the latest version.
Is the reason why it doesn't show an available update because it's an i386 version, or something else? Is there an upgrade path for me, or do I need to install the x64 version from scratch and restore the config?

You're using the wrong image. Use the Netgate ADI memstick.

I'm getting ready to do an install from scratch, and I found my notes from 2015 when I first got my SG-2440 and was setting it up from scratch. The image I used back then was pfSense-memstick-ADI-2.2.6-RELEASE-amd64.img. That installed version has been updating from 2.2.6 to 2.3.4, but now it has stopped. Now if I am to understand correctly that I have to install from scratch again, the current image I find online is pfSense-CE-memstick-ADI-2.4.1-RELEASE-amd64.img.gz. Is this new image 32-bit or 64-bit? Am I going to have to deal with a full re-install and restoring the config again in the future? Is everyone else with a newer Netgate device running into the same issue?

This isn't a Netgate device issue. Somehow you managed to install 32 bit image on your device. We never made 32 bit Netgate ADI Memstick images so it's not clear how you managed to do that :/
To switch to the right image you will need to reinstall. Simply backup your current config and restore it after you install pfSense-CE-memstick-ADI-2.4.1-RELEASE-amd64.img.gz. I would suggest you remove all packages from 2.2.6 before making the config backup.

That's really odd that I started with the 32-bit version at 2.2.6. I bought the device from NetGate, and I'm pretty sure I grabbed the one and only image available at the time, but I guess not. Either way, I reinstalled ADI 2.4.1 image and restored my config. I was back up in less than 10 minutes. At least I'm on the right track now. Thanks.

Happy to see you're back up!
