Intel Dual GIG-E NIC PCIE 1x Slot
-
I have a Asrock J4205 motherboard that was in a media center that I recently replaced and I was going to re-use the board to replace the one in my PFsense box. This CPU supports AES-NI and is faster then the Celeron 1037u that is currently being used. But after looking at the board I realized it only has a PCIE 1x 2.0 slot (which I found odd) and my Intel NIC is a 4x. Now I know that the PCIE 1x 2.0 slot has at least double the bandwidth needed for a Dual Gig-E NIC, so I am not sure why it is so hard to find one.
The other option is to cut the end of the PCIE 1x slot to allow the 4x NIC to fit, but I am not sure if this will even work.
So, I am looking to see if anyone has some recommendations.

@johnkeates:
Cut the end of the PCIE 1x slot to allow the 4x NIC to fit, it will be fine. Keep in mind that you only need to cut away the little tab at the end, not like the whole side or something. A 1x slot should be enough for 2x GbE.
That is what I thought I could do, I just wasn't sure electrically it would work. Thanks.

I have the very same motherboard. The NIC I use is a dual NIC PCIe 1x card. I've had it for nearly 9 months, and so far no problems.
