It is counterproductive to produce yet another set of documentation that is going to be riddled with errors and inconsistencies and will lag behind the existing better quality official documentation.

To me that would start with spelling the name correctly. It's pfSense. ::)

I don't think any of us here are lawyers. And, even if so, he/she has not been retained by you. Your own counsel is obligated to give you an opinion that is in YOUR best interests.

The hard and fast rules that I know of are you cannot take pfSense, install it on your own hardware, and sell it as a "pfSense firewall." You also cannot take the pfSense code, modify it, and distribute it as pfSense.

But, again, I am not a lawyer.

I understand the (of course) the feedback that there are voices that would rather not have an extra page with PFsense installation notes. But I am currently working on a blog in which a complete network is set up and configured. It also contains a PFsense. But only a small part of the whole. Therefore, my question, if I am allowed to do so, so whether I can show the installation process for beginners in a blog, according to PFsense. There are other firewall systems, but I personally like PFsense best. But if I run into purely legal problem here, I have to keep my hands off it. So my question: May I describe the installation process for beginners and the configuration according to the guidelines of PFsense (see link above in the chat)? No sale or the like - just use the software in my own tutorial.

It can be hard to imagine what might be an issue after having installed so many times.

But it would be better to contribute those thoughts here so we can review them and commit changes to the wiki.

If you want to contribute with a guide, then post it here… Let it be reviewed by peers.. Then if you want to put it on your blog.. nobody is going to care.

You understand there is already install instructions right?
After reading the page (from link), another question arises for me: Can I describe in a blog for beginners, how PFSense must be installed? Respectively may one describe on the blog for beginners, how the PFSense firewall can be configured?

Configuring it correctly :)

Our policies apply only to those who want to sell pfSense, which is not the case here. https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Can_I_sell_pfSense
