DHCPREQUEST wrong network???
-
I have a Proxmox server running a virtual Pfsense 2.4 on my small home network.
I have some devices ( most all ESP8266 wireless type devices) that fail to get a dhcp address. I see the follwoing message in the log file:
DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.1.14 (192.168.1.1) from 5c:cf:7f:b7:61:71 via vtnet1: wrong network.
My home network is 192.168.100.0, IF understrand correctly somehow this request is coming from 192.168.1.0 network? I did a nmap scan of my netrwork, there is only 1 dhcp server.
Im not even sure how this is possible, could someone shed some light on this??? thx.

Hmm, it sure looks like a response to a dhcp offer. Rogue dhcp server would still be my prime suspect there.

A client that previously had that address will request that address again.
It should get a NAK then do a discover, offer, request, ack dance for the network it is currently connected to.
What else is logged related to that MAC address?

DHCP clients try for the previous address. If available, the DHCP server will provide it.

Thx for the replies! Although nmap reported only 1 dhcp sever on the network, I found an access point with dhcp turned. I'm assuming this was the issue…..
