DNS resolver doesn't resolve public DNS pointing to local address
-
In public DNS I have an entry (e.g. host.example.com) set to an IP on the local network (e.g. 192.168.88.10).
When I query that host (host.example.com) I get the local IP for all resolvers except that on my PFSense firewall.
Is there some kind of setting that blocks this resolution?

It's a security feature to prevent DNS Rebinding attacks.
See https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/dns/dns-rebinding-protections.html for info on how to work around that.

Putting rfc1918 in a public dns is almost always BORKED... And yes anything worth anything would not hand that back to a client because of possible rebind.. Because again rfc1918 in a public domain is just borked ;)
