wife-friendly blocking
-
Searched around for a bit on this....
On the occasion when the kids get out of hand I have all of their MACs set as an alias and I can block them from accessing the internet for the amount of time of whatever punishment the wife and I have agreed on. Lately I've been traveling making this harder for me to set up and impossible for the wife. Is there an easy away I could script this or is there a simplified web interface to do this anywhere that would be more wife-friendly?
Thanks so much!

You can create a pfSense user and grant only the time table rights for this user. Then your wife can only edit the time tables for your kids.

@bepo :) That's a little too much for her to master. Hoping for something simpler like an on/off button.

Just login and change the timeframe on the "Schedules" Page is too much for her? Well sorry.
Then configure rules with different timeframes and show her how to On/Off the firewall rules. Rules handled by pfsense from the top.

"Alexa, block kid's internet access for the next two hours"
Now you just need to find someone who can implement this for you.

Then you just need a way to prevent the kids from saying
Alexa, unblock kids internet access ;)
I had my almost 4 year old grandson telling Alexa, Play every time I told her to stop... He was playing music and we were trying to have a conversation.. If was hilarious.. He did this like 3 times, and his little grin was getting wider and wider every time ;)

I like the Alexa plug in deal. That would be awesome.
I guess making a rule on the firewall and just having her enable/disable is about the best we have at this point. I’ll give it a shot.
Love to here any other ideas if anyone has them.

Fine :-) Good Luck!

How about a secured wifi for the parents, and a physical cable for the kids wifi? Wife can pull the cable for the kids, and stay on her own wifi. (Would require either two APs, or a 3rd network port + a single AP with two SSIDs.
