Snmp from host and not Pfsense from external ip address
-
I work for a tv station, and our primary encoder is receiving data from a source out of state. I'm coming form a soicwall firewall and all i had to do was foward port 161 to the paticular device and viola no problems. I've switched over to pfsense and opened the same exact ports as the previous firewall and all i get are timeout messages and i don't know how to or if i even need to port foward port 161 to my device or do have to setup some type of firewall rule so that when i get the request from my man wan that it talks just to that device. Any help is appreciated.

A port forward is a port forward.
You need a firewall rule on WAN that passes the traffic to the inside address and port.
That is generated automatically by default.

So let me get this straight, I don't need to port foward port 161 to the specific device?

Yes. You need a port forward. And a firewall rule. It's all in those links.

i've tried it. I've port foward snmp port to the internal device. I've told pfsense that all traffic coming from the specific external host ipaddress that comes in on my main wan that is port 161 to direct to my internal device. I was just looking for some help in my configuration if i had missed something or did something incorrectly. thanks for all your help and time.
