How does this appliance (which is 50% of the cost) compare to the SG-5100? I'm after gigabit throughput and also high OpenVPN speeds (if someone wants to hazard a guess on what VPN speeds I might get with this, I'm all ears).

If this is faster than the SG-5100, then that's all I really need to know. If its the same speeds, ditto. If its less, then its a no go for me.

That is literally the predicament I am in. For now, I VLAN to a PC who has a top of the line CPU in it (overkill really) which would probably do gigabit OpenVPN, but given my internet connection is 100/40, the box above seems like it will be perfect for the cupboard.

For 50% of the cost of the SG5100 in AUD terms, it is probably the way to go.

@<bdi>Rico</bdi> I need something high performing for OpenVPN (200mbps+), and gigabit speeds, with low heat as it will sit inside a cupboard. I currently VLAN to an ESXI box running pfsense from the cupboard to a gigabit segment which has split LAN/WAN via VLANing. Ideally I'd like to get the firewall into the central part of my network and drop the VLAN.

I really want an SG-5100 but the pricing kills me in AUD. I mean, literally I can get something for 50% of the price that will do exactly the same thing. It totally sucks that I can't buy the SG-5100 for the same price, otherwise I'd get it in a heartbeat. I'll have to go with this yum cha special :) instead because of the price point, and the decent CPU grunt in it.

I recognise its not negate's fault per se with how the SG-5100 translates to over the top pricing in AUD ($1400). It's just crazy with currency exchange (US to AUD) and import duties into Australia. If you did an Australian deal, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Does the appliance I've linked to above compare we'll to the 5100? ie faster / the same / worse?

They are solution consultants so they aren't interested in selling the box stand alone. That said, one did quote around AUD$1400 for it. There is no way around the fact that the AUD currency and USD currency are different, causing the massive price increase.

It makes the SG-5100 just unaffordable here in this country - the solution provider said the same thing and they don't sell any because of that reason.
