Wake on LAN Schedule
-
Hi does anyone know how to set up WOL to trigger everyday at a specific time? eg wake up a server everyday at7am.
I can do this via the WOL option on the pfsense interface but not set a schedule.
Do I have to set a cron job via the command line? Thanks for your help
EDIT:
I have figured it out, if anyone else is trying to do this, install the cron package and add this command
/usr/local/bin/wol -i 192.168.X.X 00:11:22:33:44:55
The ip and mac address being the ip and mac address of the machine your trying to wake.
There is options for time, date etc there for you to edit. -
It would be really nice to be able to schedule WOL events from the web GUI.
Edit. Well, how 'bout that. I just installed the cron package, and can now setup the WOL cron events in the GUI. Nice.

Steps.
- Read and understand the wol details in man page
https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=wol&manpath=ports&sektion=1 - Test your wol command using the pfSense cli and make sure it works.
- Copy your working wol command to the pfSense GUI page for the cron schedule/s.

It's possible.
Install the pfSense Cron package.
Add your 'wol' command and the moment you want to execute it.
Done.
