Possible To Assign Hostnames Through DHCP Option 12 Using DHCP Static Mappings?
-
Hello everyone,
Is it possible to use Option 12 under the "Additional BOOTP/DHCP Options" and assign hostnames to my devices but use what I have listed in the "DHCP Static Mappings for this Interface" on each of my pfSense interfaces? If so, would you please go into more detail on how to achieve this.

Probably not. The clients don't like to set their hostnames based on DHCP. Nothing to do with pfSense.

Thanks for the reply! Am I misunderstanding the use of DHCP Option 12? According to what I've read if Option 12 is received by a client during the time of acquiring an IP address then the hostname sent by Option 12 is used by the client.

Which is completely up to the client to use or not use..
With linux you could add
request host-name
To the dhcp client config, but I am not aware of a way to get windows to ask for option 12 or use if offered.
