<p dir="auto">And no your cheap smart switch is not going to support either of those features.  But yeah that $40 smart switch would allow for putting any port in any vlan he wanted to..</p>

<p dir="auto">The only thing that makes sense to me is perhaps he wants certain devices on the VLAN, based on MAC address.  Many switches support that, though not cheap ones.  That's often done with VoIP phones, where the switch recognizes the MAC prefix.</p>

<p dir="auto">Such a setup is not for beginners ;)  And your switching infrastructure needs to support such a feature.. Your $40 vlan smart switch not going to support such a feature more than likely.</p>

VLAN is a different "interface" that can run on the same cable, you probably need a managed switch or you need to set the network card of your client to use that specific vlan id</p>
