What would be the best nic for a self build?

Hi I’m doing a self build and see a little bit about nice and such. Now the pfsense 1100 is there cheapest bot of 300 bucks. What kind of nicks could be in there? I don’t think they are too high end meaning having robust drivers and capacitors and such but what would be a good couple of budget par say that would work as I am on a budget. I tried some TP links and kernel 4.19 doesn’t even pick them up for Linux. I think that would be the case here is what cards are picked up by which kernel. Your help is appreciated! Thank you

@3rdOstrige hey I’d like to add to this as I have found out . Just as I thought an Intel pro 1000 will do fine. But now the question is, can I get a pci 32 bit one.? Will a 32 bit pci be compatible?

Yeah, use Intel NICs of you can. You can find a PCI card and it will almost certainly be compatible. Of course anything with 32bit PCI slots will be relatively ancient as will the cards to go in it so that reliability is a factor.
The SG-1100 is not really comparable as it's a complete ARM SoC.
