acessing printer from any local network
-
I have read a number of forum posts asking for help in allowing traffic to a network printer across local networks. These posts included the fact the printers were attached to a local PC and the person had several vaiables that made it confusing to read.
So here is my problem:
I have three local networks (192.168.30.1/24 <my office>; 192.168.40.1/24<my wife office>; 192.168.50.1/24<rest of house>)
I have a brother mfc printer attached via cat5; my wife has a HP connected via cat5.
I would like to put both printers on a VLAN (192.168.60.1/24) for all to have access.
If each local network only has one rule ( any any,) anyone on any network can access any network.
I currently have rules with alias's allowing access to any device on the specific network, but deny any access to the others.
Can I just add a rule above that one allowing traffic to the VLAN 192.168.60.1/24?
Could I add a rule allowing traffic ONLY to the printers on that VLAN?I am hoping my scenerio is understandable and un-complicated.
Is this the best way to access the printrs from any local network or would you suggest another way?
Thanks for any input

yes

yes, but if you only have that printers on that network you can just leave "any" and maybe you can use that network for other future shared devices

"the best" is most of the time a personal opinion, i think it's a good way -
@kiokoman Thank you for your assistance!
