Pfsense start with one ethernet port ?
-
Hello all :)
I have one small, old laptop that i want to install pfsense.
- I have to use pfsense with management switch or unmanaged switch is ok ?
- The laptop has on Ethernet Port is ok to connect to the unmanaged switch and create multiple VLAN or is it better to buy management switch?
I am confused and i don't know how to start with pfsense. Cheers )

Yes, you can install and run with one NIC.
If you want to route/NAT you will need multiple interfaces and that usually means VLANs on that single NIC.
To break out those VLANs onto separate ports you will need a managed, VLAN capable, switch.

And a computer that supports VLANs. Many laptops don't.

I've yet to see a NIC that couldn't do VLANs in pfSense, assuming it works at all. Maybe I've not been looking hard enough....
