Unable to check for updates
-
Let me start with: I have already tried using the forum search.
Running 2.4.4.-Release, and I'm unable to update pfsense. I can update packages. My DNS configuration hasn't changed in probably 9 months, and I'm pretty sure I've updated in that timeframe. I have been getting the "Retrieving Unable to check for updates" indication for about month now.
Any thoughts?

pfblocker running and blocking all countries
or try
SSH in, option 8, run:pfSense-upgrade -4

What hardware are you running on? Do you mean 2.4.4-release rather than 2.4.4pX?

So I tried this, and the FW started crashing upon reboot.
I have had this exact error several times before, and have never been able to get to the bottom of what's going on. I ended up having to reinstall and restore the config. I then upgraded to the latest 2.4.5 snapshot, as I suspect some kind of unique config issue with my setup on 2.4.4-p3.

I am running a Qotom box. Yes, I was on 2.4.4-release. As I stated in my other reply on this matter, I have had issues three or four times where the box would become unreachable over the network, I'd pull it and put a monitor on it, and I would find it throwing that cert error on line 46 (don't ask me why I remember that, no idea, but I do). If it was a hardware error, would I see a software crash on the same line multiple times? Seems not. I am wondering if I don't have some configuration database inconsistency that I perpetuate somehow.

configuration database inconsistency
The file system is ok ?
Some messages you cans ee on the console while booting ?
File system full ? (like people install Squid and forgetting it logs a GB a day ...)If you setup isn't that massive, install from scratch, re enter your settings. You'll be having a clean base.
Use the downloaded config.xml backup file as a guideline. It's readable by a human and has all the details about your settings.
If errors still arrive, you can rule out the software (as is runs for hundreds of thousands of us).Btw : use 2.4.4-p3 - or go to 2.4.5 RC direct. Don't keep old bugs (versions) around.

File system seems ok, is definitely not full. It looks like things fail when trying to call function gettext() in /etc/inc/certs.inc:46
I agree, 2.4.4p3 seems to be the gold standard, but I have repeatedly had the same error, so it has to be something with my configuration, but I don't know where to start. My certificates seem to work as intended.

When you see that it's because it failed to load a required php library. That's usually either a filesystem issue or because it somehow pulled in a bad pkg at somepoint and you now have incorrect versions. It's possible that happened if you selected 2.4.5 and then did not upgrade.
I would backup your config and install 2.4.4p3 clean from there TBH.

When you say "install 2.4.4.p3 clean"... do you mean restore from backup, or hand-configure from scratch?
-
I mean re-install the firmware so you know you have a good OS/filesystem. Then restore your config into that.
