noob with pfsense

Hello I'm a noob with pfsense, but I bought a sg-3100 trying to get into pfsense but my question is I'm trying to achieve around 300-400mpbs with a VPN and was told an x86 box would do it as my Asus RT-AC5300 running merlin could not get above 50mpbs while on a VPN (express, Nord, pia) I am using spectrum cable internet getting 500/25 without a VPN on the Asus so I'm wondering would the sg-3100 work as a home router for my needs of wanting to run a VPN without losing to much speed and would i need anything rather than my isp and modem and the sg-3100? thank you for taking the time to read and sorry this is probably such a noob question

You will see much higher thoughput if you're able to use IPSec with the SG-3100. It's on-board crypto hardware works much better there. I have seen >300Mbps over IPSec. I would expect ~100Mbps over OpenVPN. Those figures are very rough though as there are many variables.

thank you for the replay would something like express be able to do ipsec and be able to be a vpn router?

I have no idea, I've never tried them. I know some VPN services can use IPSec, most are OpenVPN only though.
Personally I consider all those VPN services of limited use at best. Setting up your own VPN server that you control is better in many ways.
