qotom Q375G4 - i7-5500u - 8gb ram - sim card slot issue
-
I am quite a new user of pfsense.
3 months i have used an old pc and i found a really cheap qotom q375g4 and bought it.
Transferred all configuration to qotom and all seems to work perfect.
Qotom has a sim card slot and i want to activate it a fail over wan.
Anyone know if there is embedded modem or i have to install one?
If there is no modem at the qotom, which is the use of sim card? -
Hi,
The SIM card is in most cases a 4G / 4G LTE / 3G, etc. paired with a modem
or located on the modem PCB, but can be imagined separately on the MOBO PCB-many manufacturers have prepared for this possibility, but there is no built-in modem (this is a option = additional money)
-since this is an amazing Qotom you can't find a regular description (User Guide, etc) of it so you can only rely on what you see
do you see one built in, like in the miniPCe socket?
or
in this case, the MOBO has the SIM slot, but the 4G modem must be purchased and installed separately..
+++edit:
before you buy any 4G modem (for a backup WAN solution or etc.), check the forum and here (https://www.freebsd.org/releases/11.3R/hardware.html) to see if it works with the current version of FreeBSD

@DaddyGo
thank you very much for your answer
this is the qotom motherboard
I suppose there is not 4g modem and i must buy one.
can anyone propose a working - tested modem with pfsense? -
definitely not included a 4G card
use these:- https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/cellular/known-working-3g-4g-modems.html

++++edit:
please also note that, if the device is pfSense (FreeBSD 11.3) compatible, it must even be Qotom FW compatiblewell, in this case it would be good, iif this little Chinese stuff would have factory support (more serious) and a appropriate description...

what I forgot is that you will also need a 4G LTE capable antenna
and connectors - RF cables (pigtail)or
