Pfsense solve my latency ! why ?
-
( my english poor sorry )
First im computer engineering not very good one but im trying my best
Im playing on 4g connection for years with unstable latency and sometime games lag sometime not
But the 4g tower is close to me and speed 100mb / 50mb - ping 19msWhat lag i had like you open youtube and keep loading then open not open direct like fiber
Some games i feel enemy move like super fast sometimes slow , some games i have fun and i got good hitreg and i kill them so easy
I know 4g is bad but the only option , before 2 days i was looking on youtube and i saw someone talk about pfsense and it solve bufferbloat , so i said lets installed it on old pc to see what happened ( i had try to limit connection before but that not solve wired latency )
After installed it and try to gaming without even setup bufferbloat setting , i was supersized how my connection stable and gaming feel so fun
No lag no wired latency no wired enemy movement
So i keep searching about pfsense what future have to make my connection so stable i found nothing interesting , so i create this topic to ask whyWhy pfsense made my connection stable ?
Why gaming so good with pfsense ?
Is it because pfsense firewall disable isp firewall ?
Is it related to routing ?
maybe pfsense automatically block some bad ip that make my latency unstable
?Is it because old pc ground ethernet and prevent EMI from ethernet cable to PC ?
I cant find any answers ;(
Im sorry im asking a lot and you may think he should read more but it hard to read while im poor with english and im in love with pfsense because he made my life much easier
If you can help with simple answers i will appreciate it 3>

- See Number 1.
- No pfSense doesn't disable ISP firewall.
- Yes, most likely related to routing.
- Yes, pfSense does block some bad IP.
- Doubt.
- Your English is good enough!
Welcome to pfSense and glad that you made a wise decision ... now, you can enjoy gaming again!

Yes, pfSense does block some bad IP.
Interesting, does it block bad IPs with the default config? Being a firewall it blocks anything incoming by default, but I didn't think it filtered out bad sites without some kind of package like pfblocker. Are you referring to the default Block bogon networks, and Block private networks on the WAN?
Anyone's guess is as good as the next for why the connection feels better. You can guess that whatever pfsense replaced was not as good, and you would be right without even knowing what "it" was.
Glad you joined the club. -

You intuitively got the answer that I implied ... with a package such as pfBlockerNG as well as by default it blocks all.

:) Got it. pfSense and you guys in the community seem to teach me something new all the time. I wanted to make sure it wasn't new pfSense magic I wasn't aware of.
