pfSense for Load Balancing
-
Hello everyone. Quite new to pfSense here. I am planning to build a load balancer for a 1GbE quad WAN to 10GbE LAN. My question is, can the hardware I got be able to support at least 100 clients (mostly students)? Below is the hardware I got atm.
Board: Asus Prime A320M-K
CPU: Ryzen 3 2200G (4 Core, 3.5GHz)
RAM: 8GB DDR4 2400
Storage: NVME 128gb
NIC 1 LAN: ASUS XG-C100C
NIC 2, 3 WANs: Intel PRO 1000PT Dual PortThanks!

NIC 1 LAN: ASUS XG-C100CWhat kind of network card is that for NIC1 LAN - ASUS XG-C100C? Is that Intel or Realtek?
Also, the other hardware seems fine. I think the Ryzen stuff doesn't properly tell the CPU temps back to pfsense, or something like that.

It's a 10GbE NIC from ASUS that I got around from a gaming rig that is not being used. As for CPU temps, it's prob. not a big deal since this one will sit on a rack that is air conditioned 24/7. Haven't yet built it so not sure if this NIC is supported in FreeBSD... I'll prob. find some 10GbE Intel if it doesn't work.

@justice41 Yeah, you'll most likely have to search for FreeBSD support on that card, like you said. Maybe one of the pros here can comment. I don't have any 10Gb networking gear, so I can't say for sure on that one.
Here's an old post from the forum:
