Gigabit cards not recognized
-
hi,
i have a dell p4 2.8 ghz machine with an onboard gigabit nic and a dlink gigabit card. i'm wondering why these gigabit cards are only recognized as 100baseTX full duplex? I'm running pfsense 1.2.3 RC1.
any suggestions?
thanks,

I presume you mean something like "the operating speed is reported by pfSense as 100base TX full duplex". If so, then it could be the equipment to which the NICs are connected is negotiating the speed down to 100Mbps. Or the cable and signal quality is insufficient to sustain gigabit operation.

As wallybob said, that's what the card and connected device (switch?) negotiated.
Anything else requires you to actually identify the devices in question, ideally by model number (look at the output from "dmesg" if you're not sure) and driver in use.
