Interface names
-
The seemingly random application of interface names is a bit confusing.
Given all of the issues, over many years, about interface naming, isn't there a simple/elegant solution in renaming all interfaces during install or when an if is added.
It seems that renaming igb0 or em3 to the name you want to see, would be preferable to adding a new layer of names AND having the base names still appearing. Can we not add facility for "interface igb0 name lan" "interface em2 name ATT" etc..?
Make selections on first boot, and expose those in the web interface? Is this even possible? Why create another layer of names, when what you really want is an if name that has meaning, rather than a ~random device dependent moniker?
A lot of situations, over a long period of time, have been impacted by this naming kerfuffle.
