How to install a package with the same version of pfSense 2.4.5-RELEASE-p1
-
Hello,
I need to install package openvpn-client-export on pfSense firewall with version 2.4.5-RELEASE-p1. On GUI Available Packages, it shows
openvpn-client-export 1.5_6 Allows a pre-configured OpenVPN Windows Client or Mac OS X's Viscosity configuration bundle to be exported directly from pfSense.
Package Dependencies:
openvpn-client-export-2.5.0 openvpn-2.5.0 zip-3.0_1 p7zip-16.02_3Clicking on install, it stuck in the state "Please wait while the update system initializes."
How to install openvpn-client-export version 2.4.5p1 from either cli or gui?
Thanks very much!

Did you set your system to use "Previous Stable Version" in System/Update? If not the package files or other libraries may be replaced when it tries to install a package for pfSense 2.5. I believe the recommended fix for that is to reinstall.
openvpn-2.5.0 is going to be the OpenVPN version though, if that was your question.

@teamits , thank you very much for the solution.
The openvpn-client-export was successfully install after setting the branch to be "Previous Stable Version" in System/Update.
Unfortunately, after openvpn-client-export being installed, the previously installed package frr is missing. As a result, the firewall cannot peer with BGP peers and thus loss internet connectivity.
Any chances to fix this issue?
Thanks very much!

From GUI, I tried again on a test pfSense instance.
Once setting the branch to be "Previous Stable Version" in System/Update, the previously installed package frr is missing.

As I said the package system may be damaged if you have 2.4.5 installed and tried to install a package from 2.5. (see https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/10464). frr is a package on both versions. If it's not showing as installed or available I would plan to install 2.4.5 from scratch, change to "Previous Stable Version," install frr, then restore your configuration from backup.

Hello!
Switching the repo back to 2.4.5p1 after it was upgraded by the release of 2.5.0 can cause some packages to be automatically uninstalled without notification. FRR may be one of them.
Check the system log using a command like :
clog /var/log/system.log | grep -i deinstalled
to see if FRR got whacked. If so, a simple reinstall of the FRR package may fix it.

Thank you both very much @teamits and @serbus !
I'd like to stay with the stable release 2.4.5-RELEASE-p1, which is running on the pfSense firewall.
Checking the syslog using the command, it shows switching repo to 2.4.5p1 and installing package openvpn-client-export causes FRR being uninstalled.
Would you mind to share commands to prevent uninstall of package FRR and install package openvpn-client-export while keeping current version to be 2.4.5p1 ?
Thanks very much!

Hello!
I dont think the openvpn-client-export install is related to the FRR deinstall. FRR would have been deinstalled by simply switching to the 2.4.5p1 repo.
Now that you have switched back to the 2.4.5p1 repo, I would try reinstalling FRR from the Package Manager. My experience is that the packages that were auto-purged still had their settings saved.
