Unfortunately I can't get DHCP working.... Also I've notice that I have 2.4.4-RELEASE-p3 (amd64) installed. Trying option 13) Update from console but get wrong OS version...

Since it did work previously should I be able to get it configured?

I tried assigning the LAN interface (em0) to 192.168.2.1 but ifconfig em0 does not show this IP address assigned. ifconfig also shows em0.1 which does not have an IP address assigned - don't know where this device name comes from, maybe something to do with vlans which I don't use.

Any advice would be appreciated.

So... don't know what caused the original problem, but it looks like it has been sorted.

I've installed the latest version on another disk and now DHCP and routing works fine. but I had quite a bit of configuration done for static IPs, PXE settings as well as sundry software installed.

As mentioned in the original post, I set the IP address of the LAN to 192.168.1.1 and configured DHCP but requests were not getting replies. I'm now using the same machine but with a different disk and things are working. I'm not sure what would happen if I tried installing the new version over the old, would it pick up and old settings? Maybe I'll copy the old installation onto another partition and try installing on that to see what happens...

Can I make copy of my configuration from the command line? I'm unable to access the system from my LAN.

Alternatively is there a file which I can copy locally which has my current settings?

theoretically, packages get reinstalled automagically when you restore a backup of your configuration to the new install.
