ATAPI_identify issue

Installing fresh with the newest version running on an HP compaq DC5750 microtower. Trying to install appears to work initially, but during the process, I get CAM status: Command timeout messages which eventually occupy the screen over the installer dialogues. When I get to the disk select, I run into a "device is busy" prompt. After opening the disk tray or restarting with the disk drive disconnected, I get the partition scheme selections, but when I choose one, it just says "file exists. geom 'da0'". I've done some looking around but nobody seems to have this specific problem and anything near to it suggested settings in the BIOS that I don't have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I've tried to install Ubuntu on a hunch, and everything works fine there so I assume it's some sort of driver problem

Solved!
My motherboard was set for the sata controller to emulate IDE and had no AHCI mode. Fortunately I can set the mode to RAID and that appears to work just fine when I did a BIOS mode install.
