I have an on-premise ONT (so, fiber to the home vs. fiber to the street, then copper to the home) so I "should" (according to my provider) have full access to the entire 1Gb pipe. With my SG-1100, I'm only getting an average of around 450-500Mb/s, if I'm lucky. My provider says it is being limited by my SG-1100 and looking at the specs, it does appear that the SG-1100 only supports what appears to be burst modes of 650Mb/s at the firewall. However, I'm not seeing close to that.

So, my question is, if I upgrade to the SG-3100, should I be able to see full 1Gb/s bandwidth if I swap the appliances? Secondary question: Should I, in theory, be able to backup the configuration on the SG-1100 and apply it to the SG-3100 to save having to reconfigure everything from scratch again?

Thanks in advance!
Skippy

As mentioned, I'm not doing rocket-surgery with the 1100, but bandwidth is the primary reason for the upgrade questions. Looks like a 3100 will do what I'd want/need.

Yeah, the only packages I've added are pfBlockerNG(dev), acme, and haproxy. So, even if I run into issues restoring, it's not a major inconvenience to set those back up again.

I was mostly concerned with the bandwidth limits on the 1100 vs 3100 and if the 3100 would get me to a higher level of bandwidth utilization; right now, paying for gigabit fiber and only getting average cable-modem speeds is just not sitting right in my brain.

If you wanted to run packages or VPNs over that you might want something more powerful.

And, yes, you can import the config from an 1100 into a 3100. We can assist with that conversion if required.

That can affect performance.

Per https://www.netgate.com/appliances you should be OK. Also note the 1100 shows "IMIX Traffic: 190 Mbps" in the Firewall section. Performance is of course relative to number of rules, setup, VPN, IDS, packages, etc., etc.

Re: restore, it should work and prompt to assign interfaces during the restore. Netgate has posted before several times to create a free ticket at go.netgate.com and they'll help with converting configs between models.
