Anyone for hire here? Looking to convert from one device to another
-
Hiya. I just inherited a pfsense installation and am usually a sonicwall guy. Id like to convert my pfsense installation from a desktop pc to a new pfsense appliance and would like to hire someone to do that.
Any pros here looking for a side gig?

@dialsoft Where you at??

@dialsoft If you're just looking to migrate, in general if you restore a backup it will prompt you to assign the interfaces (WAN, LAN). Alternately Netgate has offered here in the forums before to assist with migrating a config from one appliance with a switch to another, I would think they would assist migrating to one of their appliances as well. But, it may just be a restore as I mentioned.

I agree with @steveits migration from 1 device running pfsense to an appliance should not be difficult. And I do believe that sort of migration is something support is willing to help with without a contract.. You should reach out them..

Yeah, if you buy one of our appliances with a built in switch (7100, 3100, 2100) which often require some config changes we can help you with that process.
Anything else should just be a matter of assigning the interfaces before rebooting into the new config.What interfaces exist in your current install? What are you importing it into.

@stephenw10 Steve, I come from the sonicwall universe. I never used this product. I see 6 interfaces but im not sure why they are defined. I need some help with understanding the environment as well.

Look in Interfaces > Assignments. You want to see what physical NICs you have there like igb0, igb1 etc. Also if you have VLANs or bridges they will be shown there. That adds complexity but is all manageable.
