We've got several Netgate 7100-HA clusters. These have been working just fine for us, for a couple of years in some cases.

Today I added a new CARP VIP on the WAN interface of the cluster at our main facility (VID 31), and for some reason the primary box shows the VIP, but doesn't display either Master or Backup. On the secondary it shows up as Master.

I've tried changing the VID from 31 to 32, for example, and it makes no difference.

Here's some 'ifconfig' output from both units:
      Primary:

carp: MASTER vhid 30 advbase 1 advskew 0
      vlan: 273 vlanpcp: 0 parent interface: lagg1

      Secondary:

carp: BACKUP vhid 30 advbase 1 advskew 100
carp: MASTER vhid 32 advbase 1 advskew 100
      vlan: 273 vlanpcp: 0 parent interface: lagg1

The OpenVPN instance I want bound to this VIP, therefore, ends up running on the secondary, which just won't do for our needs.

I have never seen this behavior before, and we've got five of these clusters in production.

Anyone have any suggestions? It's a production cluster, so I'm loathe to reboot, or anything drastic like that, until a maintenance event can be declared.

      Thanks in advance,
      -nic

Never mind, a reboot solved it.
