Where do I put IPv6 WAN tunnel in my chain?
-
I'm making another attempt at enabling IPv6, and realizing I need to learn some more. (Motivation: my cell phone "wifi calling" really wants to use v6 ;) )
My question up front: To tunnel (6rd), which interface do I set up for that?
My pfSense WAN side is a bit complicated, due to using single-WAN CARP over PPPoE with VLAN (.201 ie CenturyLink.)
The following works quite nicely, but is certainly not "simple":
a) VLAN 201 assigned to vtnet0 (hardware WAN link)
b) vtnet0.201 is config'd as: CARP2WAN, static IP 192.168.222.2
c) CARP VIP for my static ISP IPv4 is assigned to CARP2WAN
d) PPP (PPPoE) interface is configured to use the CARP VIP
e) WAN interface is set up on the PPPoE / CARP VIP(To get all that I had to configure differently then change PPPoE interfaces after the fact. pfSense doesn't think PPPoE can be static...)
ANYway... I can enable IPv6 on either (b) or (e) in that list. They both show up in the Assignable Interfaces list in the gui.
So far, I don't have either one working, so I know I have debugging to do. But it would be nice to know how it "ought" to be set up.
I'm thinking it "ought" to be on WAN... or maybe there needs to be yet another layer on top, since I'm tunneling ipv6 through ipv4 with 6rd???
I am quite confused.
