New BT Fibre - Multi WAN Openvpn considerations.
-
Morning all.
Been a while for asking for advice but here goes. Apologies in advance if this is a little off topic for Openvpn but it’s a sort on combined question. I wish to try and minimise issues on changing over and it would be great for some advice. This thread is essentially asking what repercussions are of assigning a new gateway in correlation with OpenVPN and the existing remote users.
We have a new BT fibre connection here is the current topology.
• WAN1 - SUPPLIER 1
• WAN2 - BT ADSL
• WAN3 - BT FIBREThe gateway is set at default and it currently uses WAN1 for the inbound OpenVPN connections. I wish to assign WAN3 as the default gateway now as this is the fastest.
When the time comes to test this can I assume I would have to either
A. Rename WAN3 to 1.WAN3 so automatic uses this gateway first.
OR
B. Manually force the dropdown to WAN3 in system_gateways.phpHaving done this I would then have to I assume re-export the vpn_openvpn_export.php certs via export plugin to the users? Or could I just visit the remote users and simply edit the config file to reflect the new WAN3 IP address? I know when you export the opnvpn config files it inserts what I’m assuming is the default gateway IP.
Just to add, my certificates are to expire in 1 year anyway and so I may just export the certs to users anyway and wipe / import remotely.
If this is not the optimal way to approach then then by all means correct or suggest accordingly thanks. I’m open ears and less friction on the changeover for myself is preferable.
Thanks in advance for advice and knowledge.
